Kremmling Branch Manager Emily Pedersen explains how the classes originated, “We originally reached out to Spanish speaking families who were using our library services and asked them if they would be willing to chat with us.”įrom these conversations Pedersen and her staff were able to identify what resources and books were needed in the library and identified that an ESL class would be helpful.įortunately, the perfect volunteer was available, and she had already determined the need for the ESL program when she saw younger children translating for their parents.Īs a volunteer, White is fueled by a desire to help adults broaden their horizons as they learn English.
White works with her adult students individually for an hour, and tries to keep her schedule flexible to fit the needs of each participant. White and her husband, Jim, moved to Kremmling five years ago, and White understands how hard it is to assimilate into a community.
The classes are offered each Tuesday from 10am – 5pm, in hourly increments, under the tutelage of Melitta White. For the past seven months, the Kremmling Library has been offering English as a Second Language (ESL) classes.
